Big Water Yurt / Millcreek Canyon
Big Water yurt Millcreek canyon is for rent through Salt Lake County Parks. The yurt comes available December 1 through April 30th. The yurt is located in a beautiful canyon with front door access to some of Utah's premium backcountry skiing. Little Water and Big Water peaks are a short distance. Go a little further and you've got Soldier Peak, Wilson Peak, and a big day will put you on top Gobbler's knob. Renting this yurt puts you in the Backcountry before you even wake up.

Skiing
The skiing near the Yurt is primo. On days with questionable avalanche danger, stick to the low angle trees of Little Water Peak. If conditions are right and you are looking for a bigger objective, the Wilson Chute is a good choice. We accessed Wilson Peak by skiing down the road and heading up the Wilson fork drainage (good choice). It was our last day and check out is at noon so we left our overnight stuff hidden in the bushes near the road, to be picked up on the way back down to our car.
Access
Getting to the Big Water yurt is simple but not easy.
Getting to the Yurt
The Yurt is operated by Salt Lake County Parks and is open to the public on a raffle system. You need to print out the application form, fill it out, and personally hand deliver your application into the SLCountry Parks office near the end of October. The price is $75 per/night. Sleeps up to 8 people.
From Salt Lake Snowshoe or ski on the machine groomed Mill Creek Ski trail. It's a LONG 4 miles to the yurt.
From Park City Make sure you have picked up the keys prior. Ride the 9,990 lift and access the backcountry through the Gates. Make your way to SQUARE TOP MOUNTAIN then ski the ridge North until you get to Sheep Shit Ridge. Here you have the choice to hang a left and skin along the ridge to Little Water Peak, or drop into the Mill Creek drainage. Either way will involve another transition to skinning. Staying on the ridge toward Little Water Peak is recommended as there is better skiing and you avoid the several creek crossings required in the Millcreek drainage route.
